We landed two mitigations for the bug, and crash data shows that it is indeed fixed. It is still not clear whether this is a compiler bug, wrong use of inline assembly, or LTO. The original fix to move the call to {FlushInstructionCache} should not be needed any more though. This CL thus reverts https://crrev.com/c/1571619 and uses V8_NOINLINE instead of the noinline attribute. If this reintroduces any crashes, please revert. We are far enough away from the branch to detect this on canary without too much trouble. Denver supports a coherent cache mechanism. There is no need to clean the D cache and invalidate I cache. MTS has to check the translation anytime there is an I cache invalidate and this time can be saved by making FlushICache a NOP. The patch improves Octane by roughly 3-4% on Denver. In theory, the Thumb version of FlushICache doesn't have to be any different from the ARM version: There is no need to switch to ARM mode for the svc, and r7 can be used just like any other register. In practice, GCC uses r7 as a frame pointer in Thumb code, and it refuses to allow it be used in inline assembly. To avoid complicated checks to determine whether or not it is possible to use it directly, the FlushICache function explicitly preserves r7. Chromium build. v8.gyp no longer sets any V8_TARGET_ARCH_* macro on the Mac. Instead, the proper V8_TARGET_ARCH_* macro will be set by src/globals.h in the same way as the V8_HOST_ARCH_* macro when it detects that no target macro is currently defined. The Mac build will attempt to compile all ia32 and x86_64 .cc files. #ifdef guards in each of these target-specific source files prevent their compilation when the associated target is not selected. For completeness, these #ifdef guards are also provided for the arm and mips .cc files.
