Currently the backing store and elements kind might not aligned aka backing store can be dictionary where elements kind is frozen/sealed element kinds or the other way around. The reason is that Object.preventExtensions change elements kind to DICTIONARY while Object.seal/freeze change elements kind to SEALED/FROZEN element kind. Apply both these operations can lead to that problem as in chromium:992914 To solve this issue, we avoid Object.preventExtensions to change backing store to dictionary by introducing new nonextensible elements kind. These new nonextensible elements kind are handled similar to frozen, sealed element kinds. This change not only fixes the problem but also optimize the performance of nonextensible objects. As the next step in supporting huge typed arrays in V8, this moves the external/data pointer from the FixedTypedArrayBase backing store to the JSTypedArray instance itself, and replaces the special backing stores with a plain ByteArray (removing all the code for the FixedTypedArrayBase class hierarchy). By doing so, we can drastically simplify the system around typed arrays. Note: Several places in the code base used to check the instance type of the elements backing store of a JSTypedArray instead of checking the elements kind on the JSTypedArray map directly. Those had to be fixed, since the backing store is now always a ByteArray. Drive-by-fix: Move all the typed elements access related code into the elements.cc file to properly encapsulate the accesses. The `FAST_` prefix doesn’t make much sense — they’re all just different cases with their own optimizations. Packedness being implicit (e.g. `FAST_ELEMENTS` vs. `FAST_HOLEY_ELEMENTS`) is not ideal, either. This patch renames the FAST elements kinds as follows: - e.g. FAST_ELEMENTS => PACKED_ELEMENTS - e.g. FAST_HOLEY_ELEMENTS => HOLEY_ELEMENTS The following exceptions are left intact, for lack of a better name: - FAST_SLOPPY_ARGUMENTS_ELEMENTS - SLOW_SLOPPY_ARGUMENTS_ELEMENTS - FAST_STRING_WRAPPER_ELEMENTS - SLOW_STRING_WRAPPER_ELEMENTS This makes it easier to reason about elements kinds, and less confusing to explain how they’re used. String wrappers (new String("foo")) are special objects: their string characters are accessed like elements, and they also have an elements backing store. This used to require a bunch of explicit checks like: if (obj->IsJSValue() && JSValue::cast(obj)->value()->IsString()) { /* Handle string characters */ } // Handle regular elements (for string wrappers and other objects) obj->GetElementsAccessor()->Whatever(...); This CL introduces new ElementsKinds for string wrapper objects (one for fast elements, one for dictionary elements), which allow folding the special-casing into new StringWrapperElementsAccessors. No observable change in behavior is intended. Review URL: https://codereview.chromium.org/1612323003 Cr-Commit-Position: refs/heads/master@{#33616}

This is the first step towards unifying external and on-heap typed arrays. The end-state will be that this base pointer either points to the on-heap values or to the externally allocated array buffer. When compiling on a laptop I like to concatenate the small test files. This makes a big difference to compile times. These changes make that easier. R=ulan@chromium.org BUG= Review URL: https://codereview.chromium.org/1163803002 Cr-Commit-Position: refs/heads/master@{#28742}

This way we don't clash with the ASSERT* macros defined by GoogleTest, and we are one step closer to being able to replace our homegrown base/ with base/ from Chrome. This is a mostly mechanical CL (more than 90% Emacs macros and query-replace-regexp) moving FILE*/StringStream*-based APIs to OStream-based APIs. There are a few places where this had to stop, otherwise the CL would be even bigger, but this can easily and incrementally cleaned up later.
