This is the final part of the tier-up commit series. It implements: - A prologue in NCI code objects that checks and acts upon the optimization marker. - Currently, handling is deferred to the InterpreterEntryTrampoline but this will change in the future. - The lifecycle is otherwise like Ignition-to-Turbofan; the runtime profiler marks a function for optimization, the next call to that function triggers optimization by calling into runtime, and the finished code object is installed both on the JSFunction and the optimized code cache. - The feedback vector's kOptimizedCodeWeakOrSmiOffset slot is currently reused for the mid-to-top tier up. With the new Turbofan variants (NCI and Turboprop), we need a way to distinguish between them both during and after compilation. We initially introduced CompilationTarget to track the variant during compilation, but decided to reuse the code kind as the canonical spot to store this information instead. Why? Because it is an established mechanism, already available in most of the necessary spots (inside the pipeline, on Code objects, in profiling traces). This CL removes CompilationTarget and adds a new NATIVE_CONTEXT_INDEPENDENT kind, plus helper functions to determine various things about a given code kind (e.g.: does this code kind deopt?). As a (very large) drive-by, refactor both Code::Kind and AbstractCode::Kind into a new CodeKind enum class. Stack parameters in the StubCallDescriptor were set to the wrong type. I changed it now so that for stack parameters that are specified in the CallInterfaceDescriptor, type specified type is used. All other parameters are assumed to be tagged, as it has been until now. The LinkageLocation currently consists of two fields, a bit_field and a machine_type. The existing equality check only checked the equality of the bit_field, which meant that a FP register location and a GP register location could alias. I added a static {IsSameLocation} function which checks that not just the bit_field but also if one of the two locations at least has a subtype of the other. Note that we do not check for type-equality because {CanTailCall} checks, which are the main user of the LinkageLocation equality check, should pass even if the result types are in a sub-typing relationship. The deoptimizer calculates frame layout based on the translation's `height` field, together with additional data (e.g.: are we looking at the topmost frame? what kind of deopt are we in?). The result is the final deoptimized frame size in bytes, together with a bunch of intermediate results such as the variable frame size (= without the fixed-size portion). In order to consider the deoptimized frame size in optimized stack checks, we will need to calculate the frame layout during compilation in addition to what we currently do during deoptimization. This CL moves in that direction by extracting relevant parts of frame layout calculation into classes that can be reused by both compiler and deoptimizer. These helpers will support both precise and conservative modes; the deoptimizer will use the precise mode (since it has full information), while the instruction selector will use the conservative mode. When collecting JS block coverage, we track block execution counts on so-called CoverageInfo objects. Generated bytecode and native code contains inlined snippets of code to increment the appropriate counters. These used to be implemented as calls to the IncBlockCounter runtime function. Each call incurred the entire CEntry overhead. This CL reduces that overhead by moving logic over into a new IncBlockCounter TFS builtin. The builtin is called directly from bytecode, and lowered to the same builtin call for optimized code. Drive-by: Tweak CoverageInfo layout to generate faster code. Anyref parameters can exist across GC runs. Therefore the GC has to know where anyref parameters are on the stack so that it can mark them in its marking phase, and update them in the compaction phase. Already in a previous CL we grouped all anyref parameters so that they can be found more easily in a stack frame, see https://crrev.com/c/1371827. In this CL we implement the stack scanning itself. Note that anyref parameters are not scanned while iterating over the caller's frame (to which they actually belong), but while iterating over the callee's frame. The reason is that with tail-calls, only the callee knows how many tagged stack parameters (aka anyref parameters) there are. Currently, Torque's builtin pointers store a Code target underneath and callsites generate a kArchCallCodeObject opcode. When embedded builtins are enabled, the call thus first calls the on-heap trampoline, which finally jumps to the target off-heap builtin code. This will no longer be possible in jitless mode, since on-heap code must not be executable. As a step towards changing the way builtin pointers are called (function pointers will hold the builtin index as a Smi, and callsites look up the off-heap target address and jump there), this CL adds a dedicated opcode for builtin pointer calls to the compiler pipeline. The calling mechanism itself is unchanged, changes there will happen in a follow-up. Drive-by: rename 'FunctionPointer' in torque/ to 'BuiltinPointer'. This CL refactors the implementation of WASM->JS import wrappers in order to make the wrapper code shareable. Instead of specializing to the import index, we use a tuple as the object ref in the both the import and indirect tables. The tuple allows the wrapper code to load both the calling instance and the target callable, rather than relying on code specialization. This requires some tricky codegen machinery, because WASM call descriptors expect an instance argument in a given register, yet the wrappers receive a tuple, the code generator must generate a prologue that loads the instance (and the callable), since it is not possible to express this at the graph level.
