This is a reland of https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/v8/v8/+/3607389. The previous revert is https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/v8/v8/+/3610448. Reason for revert: https://crbug.com/v8/12838. The original CL has merge conflicts and cannot be relanded, so this CL is newly opened. This CL moves cctest/test-log to unittests/logging/log-unittest , fixes the flaky tests in https://bugs.chromium.org/p/v8/issues/detail?id=12838 and updates the unittests status for log-unittest. Flaky Tests: - https://ci.chromium.org/ui/p/v8/builders/ci/V8%20Linux64%20TSAN%20-%20stress-incremental-marking/7287/overview - flaky LogTest.Issue539892 is caused by in stress-incremental-marking mode, Heap::MarkCompact will trigger CodeMovingGCEvent in https://source.chromium.org/chromium/chromium/src/+/main:v8/src/heap/heap.cc;l=2586;drc=52f06e6b43ff95eccf79e0a5df8d4d83c029130a for FakeCodeEventLogger which was already destructed when Heap::PerformGarbageCollection task was handled in DefaultPlatform::PumpMessageLoop. This should be fixed by removing FakeCodeEventLogger in LogTest.Issue539892. - flaky LogTest.LogAccessorCallbacks is caused by the data race in Sampler::DoSample. This should be fixed in https://chromium- review.googlesource.com/c/v8/v8/+/3616429. -https://ci.chromium.org/ui/p/v8/builders/ci/V8%20Linux64%20TSAN/41327/overview - flaky LogTest.ExternalLogEventListenerWithInterpretedFramesNativeStack is caused by the data race of i::FLAG_* which were written again after setting up the isolate. This should be fixed by only writting i::FLAG_* before setting up the Isolate. - https://ci.chromium.org/ui/p/v8/builders/ci/V8%20Linux64/47277/overview - flaky LogTest.BuiltinsNotLoggedAsLazyCompile is caused by the data race in Sampler::DoSample. Change the unittest runner to no longer uncondtionally set up a default platform in the "environment", but to instead make platform set-up part of the "mixin" framework for test fixtures. Requires modifying some tests that expect the platform to be available, and all flag implications resolved, before the mixin constructors run. We still keep the environment for setting up the process for cppgc. This process setup can only be done once per process, so it can no longer use the platform -- that's ok though, the page allocator used by cppgc's process initialisation doesn't have to be the same as the platform's so we can just pass in a separate new one. This moves every single class/function out of include/v8.h into a separate header in include/, which v8.h then includes so that externally nothing appears to have changed. Every include of v8.h from inside v8 has been changed to a more fine-grained include. Previously inline functions defined at the bottom of v8.h would call private non-inline functions in the V8 class. Since that class is now in v8-initialization.h and is rarely included (as that would create dependency cycles), this is not possible and so those methods have been moved out of the V8 class into the namespace v8::api_internal. None of the previous files in include/ now #include v8.h, which means if embedders were relying on this transitive dependency then it will give compile failures. v8-inspector.h does depend on v8-scripts.h for the time being to ensure that Chrome continue to compile but that change will be reverted once those transitive #includes in chrome are changed to include it directly. Scopes in V8 are used to guarantee one or more properties during its lifetimes. If a scope is not named e.g MyClassScope(args) instead of MyClassScope scope(args) it will get created and automatically destroyed and therefore, being useless as a scope. This CL would produce a compiling warning when that happens to ward off this developer error. Follow-up to ccrev.com/2552415 in which it was introduced and implemented for Guard classes. Remove the runtime functionality allowing the Isolate to be allocated 4GB aligned in non-pointer-compressed builds. This was barely used in tests, so we can remove it to give slightly stronger compile-time guarantees about pointer-compression-only methods being used only under pointer-compression. Change the unittests Isolate mixin to create one Isolate per test, rather than one per test suite. We usually run these tests independently in separate processes anyway, so this shouldn't affect normal test execution, but it will avoid Isolate state leaking across tests when running the unittests binary directly. Take this opportunity to also clean up the mixins, changing counter initialization and forcing pointer compression into template traits. String::NewFromLiteral is a templated function that takes a char[N] argument that can be used as an alternative to String::NewFromUtf8 and returns a Local<String> rather than a MaybeLocal<String> reducing the number of ToLocalChecked() or other checks. Since the string length is known at compile time, it can statically assert that the length is less than String::kMaxLength, which means that it can never fail at runtime. This also converts all found uses of NewFromUtf8 taking a string literal or a variable initialized from a string literal to use the new API. In some cases the types of stored string literals are changed from const char* to const char[] to ensure the size is retained. This API does introduce a small difference compared to NewFromUtf8. For a case like "abc\0def", NewFromUtf8 (using length -1 to infer length) would treat this as a 3 character string, whereas the new API will treat it as a 7 character string. As a drive-by fix, this also fixes all redundant uses of v8::NewStringType::kNormal when passed to any of the String::New* functions. This replaces all typedefs that define types and not functions by the equivalent "using" declaration. This was done mostly automatically using this command: ag -l '\btypedef\b' src test | xargs -L1 \ perl -i -p0e 's/typedef ([^*;{}]+) (\w+);/using \2 = \1;/sg' Patchset 2 then adds some manual changes for typedefs for pointer types, where the regular expression did not match. Counters in generated code, as enabled with --native-code-counters, do not work in the snapshot. This adds a `v8_enable_snapshot_code_counters` build option enabled by defaut in debug mode that allows code from the snapshot to increment the current isolate's set of counters. For this to work, we need to add native code counters in the external reference table. To keep the no snapshot configuration similar, we've also enabled the --native-code-counters flag by default for debug builds. SaveFlags previously worked by re-setting the flags using the command line. Unfortunately, this could reset flags being used by concurrent processes, which would cause TSAN issues. Now, SaveFlags stores a copy of the state of all flags on creation, and only resets changed flags in its destructor. It does this by (ab)using the flag-definitions.h pseudo-header, adding a new mode to that header which applies an includer-defined macro to each flag definition. MicrotaskQueueTest uses Isolate's default_microtask_queue for testing, however the instance is shared between test cases, and causes flaky failure of MicrotaskQueueTest.BufferGrowth. This CL adds a MicrotaskQueue instance for each test fixture, so that each test cases use separate ones. Also, this CL removes the DCHECK that denies non-default MicrotaskQueue to run, which is unneeded after https://crrev.com/c/1369906.
