As a follow-up of https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/v8/v8/+/3481475, this renames a few more operations related to property stores to keep them consistent and adds comments to explain about what they do. Summary of the renamed identifiers: - SetPropertyInLiteral -> CreateDataProperty: this implements [[CreateDataProperty]] in the spec which does [[DefineOwnProperty]] instead of [[Set]], so rename for clarity. - IsStoreIC(), IsStoreICKind() -> IsSetNamedIC(), IsSetNamedICKind(): these only check whether the feedback kind is kSetNamedSloppy or kSetNamedStrict, so the scope can be narrowed. - StoreMode::kOrdinary -> StoreMode::kSet: this implements [[Set]] in the spec and is used by both KeyedStoreIC and StoreIC to set the properties when there is no feedback. - StoreMode::kInLiteral -> StoreMode::kDefineKeyedOwnInLiteral: this implements [[CreateDataProperty]] while expecting the receiver to be a JSObject created by us (the `InLiteral` part). Prepend `DefineKeyedOwn` to it so that it's more aligned with other StoreModes - it should be possible to just merge this into the more generic StoreMode::kDefineKeyedOwn later. - KeyedStoreGenericAssembler::SetProperty -> KeyedStoreGenericAssembler::StoreProperty: these helpers are used by both define and set operations, distinguished with the StoreMode, so rename it to the more generic StoreProperty. Introduces several new runtime mechanics for defining private fields, including: - Bytecode StaKeyedPropertyAsDefine - Builtins StoreOwnIC{Trampoline|Baseline|_NoFeedback} - Builtins KeyedDefineOwnIC{Trampoline|Baseline|_Megamorphic} - TurboFan IR opcode JSDefineProperty These new operations can reduce a runtime call per class field into a more traditional Store equivalent. In the microbenchmarks, this results in a substantial win over the status quo (~8x benchmark score for single fields with the changes, ~20x with multiple fields). The TurboFan JSDefineProperty op is lowered in JSNativeContextSpecialization, however this required some hacks. Because private fields are defined as DONT_ENUM when added to the object, we can't find a suitable transition using the typical data property (NONE) flags. I've added a mechanism to specify the required PropertyAttributes for the transition we want to look up. Details: New bytecodes: - StaKeyedPropertyAsDefine, which is essentially StaKeyedProperty but with a different IC builtin (KeyedDefineOwnIC). This is a bytecode rather than a flag for the existing StaKeyedProperty in order to avoid impacting typical keyed stores in any way due to additional branching and testing. New builtins: - StoreOwnIC{TTrampoline|Baseline|_NoFeedback} is now used for StaNamedOwnProperty. Unlike the regular StoreIC, this variant will no longer look up the property name in the prototype. In adddition, this CL changes an assumption that StoreNamedOwnProperty can't result in a map transition, as we can't rely on the property already being present in the Map due to an object literal boilerplate. In the context of class features, this replaces the runtime function %CreateDataProperty(). - KeyedDefineOwnIC{Trampoline|Baseline|_Megamorphic} is used by the new StaKeyedPropertyAsDefine bytecode. This is similar to an ordinary KeyedStoreIC, but will not check the prototype for setters, and for private fields, will take the slow path if the field already exists. In the context of class features, this replaces the runtime function %AddPrivateField(). TurboFan IR: - JSDefineProperty is introduced to represent a situation where we need to use "Define" semantics, in particular, it codifies that we do not consult the prototype chain, and the semantics relating to private fields are implied as well. For keyed stores we recompute handlers based on the receiver maps we have seen. This is done so that we can transition to the most generic elements kind we have seen so far. When we recompute this handlers we get a new prototype validity cell and ignore the existing cell. This leads to incorrect behaviour if the cell was invalid. Recomputing the handler may be extra work which is not worth doing at this point. So we just reuse the existing validity cell and let the IC recompute the handler if we see the map again. Premonomorphic state was only used for store globals to handle contextual store on a global object [1]. We now handle these differently and we move to fast handlers even without going through premonomorphic state after this cl: https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/v8/v8/+/1807356. Also, with lazy feedback this would be a relatively uncommon case anyway. So, we no longer need premonomorphic state. This cl removes this state entirely. KeyedStoreIC computes the expected transition to the map based on the incoming receiver map, the index and the value that is being stored. Since we already store the element into the object, the runtime would have already computed these transitions and it is possible to use the new map of the object instead of recomputing the map. Though we would need additional checks to see the newly transitioned map is indeed a more generic elements transition and not an unexpected transition. KeyedAccessStoreMode is used when creating store handlers to determine which cases to handle (ex: handle cow, grow) and hence choose an approriate builtin. It is also used to specify elements kind transitions which is used when computing ic transitions. The store mode and the transition mode are independent of each other and it would be cleaner to use different enums to represent them. This also reduces the total number of cases in each enum. This fixes a crash when using --trace-ic on Arm64 debug. For a given return address, the assembler's `target_address_from_return_address()` method will displace it to give you the call-site address. However, this is fragile because it needs to decode the instruction stream to distinguish between different call sequences. So it triggered an assertion on Arm64 because we now use BL for builtin to buitin calls. We only use this when tracing IC states to detect if the caller is a deoptimized function. But to do this it doesn't matter if the address we have is the return or the call-site address. So we can just remove the need for the fragile Assembler method. As a drive-by, also remove `return_address_from_call_start()` which was doing the opposite and was unused. The original was reverted for breaking webkit layout tests: https://ci.chromium.org/p/v8/builders/luci.v8.ci/V8-Blink%20Linux%2064/30270 It also caused the following clusterfuzz failures: chromium:935832 This was a correctness bug due to not properly handling the case of arrays with prototypes other than Array.prototype. Accesses that were TheHole were not being handled property, both in bounds holes in holey arrays and out of bounds on either holey or packed arrays. Handling was incorrect both in access-assembler and in Turbofan. chromium:935932 This bug was that there was no handling for Has checks on the global object. Turbofan was emitting code for a store (the 'else' condition on 'access_mode == AccessMode::kLoad'). It hit a DCHECK in debug builds but in release could show up in different places. This is the bug that caused the webkit layout test failure that led to the revert. Both bugs are fixed by in CL, and tests are added for those cases. It adds a new feedback slot kind and an IC path similar to KeyedLoadIC for handling the lookups. TurboFan uses the feedback to optimize based on the maps and keys. Currently, the runtime IC functions deduce the IC kind and the language mode from the feedback slot kind. To support feedback free execution (for V8 lite mode and lazy allocation of feedback vectors) we need to infer the IC kind even when feedback vectors are not present. To be able to infer the language mode without feedback vectors, this cl forces context allocation in cases where we raise the language mode in the middle of a function. The language mode is the stricter of the language mode on the SFI and the language mode of the current context. This cl updates the bytecode handlers to check for valid feedback vectors and to call into runtime if the feedback vector is not allocated. It also adds new runtime functions to be able to infer the IC kind when there is no feedback vector. Most of the builtins and handlers remain unchanged because they are only used when feedback vector is present.
