This CL splits the class definitions per .tq file, to realize the following relationship: A class defined in src/objects/foo.tq has a C++ definition in src/objects/foo.h. Torque then generates: - torque-generated/src/objects/foo-tq.inc An include file (no proper header) to be included in src/objects/foo.h containing the Torque-generated C++ class definition. - torque-generated/src/objects/foo-tq-inl.inc An include file (no proper header) to be included in src/objects/foo-inl.h containing inline function definitions. - torque-generated/src/objects/foo-tq.cc A source file including src/objects/foo-inl.h that contains non-inline function definitions. Advantages of this approach: - Avoid big monolithic headers and preserve the work that went into splitting objects.h - Moving a definition to Torque keeps everything in the same place from a C++ viewpoint, including a fully Torque-generated C++ class definition. - The Torque-generated include files do not need to be independent headers, necessary includes or forward declarations can just be added to the headers that include them. Drive-by changes: A bunch of definitions and files had to be moved or created to realize a consistent 1:1 relationship between .tq files and C++ headers. Introduce an IsolateRoot class, which encapsulates the root address needed for pointer decompression. This class is implicitly constructible from both Isolate* and LocalIsolate*, allowing us to avoid templating methods that can take both, or awkwardly creating a `const Isolate*` from a `LocalIsolate*` just for getters. This is to establish a naming rule for Torque-generated files: - If the file is called foo/bar-tq..., then it is derived from a file foo/bar.tq - Otherwise it doesn't belong to a specific .tq file. So far, we attached -tq to all Torque-generated file names, where it sometimes corresponded to a .tq file name and sometimes not. It is not necessary to add -tq to file names to indicate that they are Torque-generated, since they are already in a directory called torque-generated, and we always refer to them as "torque-generated/filename", so there is no confusion even though some files now have the same name as a corresponding hand-written file, for example factory.cc. Add off-thread support for class boilerplate allocation, removing a previously "unreachable" overload. Notably, this requires support for off-thread allocation of Dictionaries and DescriptorArrays. Due to template fun, the off-thread allocation of Dictionaries in particular requires some amount of boilerplate (no pun intended). Remove Isolate parameters from some dictionary methods, and change others to use ReadOnlyRoots instead, to prepare for Isolate templatization in a future patch. One small side-effect is that the global dictionary's property cell's dependent code deoptimization has to dynamically get the Isolate when it needs to actually mark code for deoptimization, for method signature consistency. Given that this is the slow path anyway, it shouldn't matter. This change begins making use of the fact that Torque now knows about the relationship between classes and instance types, to replace a few repetitive lists: - Instance type checkers (single and range), defined in src/objects/instance-type.h - Verification dispatch in src/diagnostics/objects-debug.cc - Printer dispatch in src/diagnostics/objects-printer.cc - Postmortem object type detection in tools/debug_helper/get-object-properties.cc Torque is updated to generate four macro lists for the instance types, representing all of the classes separated in two dimensions: classes that correspond to a single instance type versus those that have a range, and classes that are fully defined in Torque (with fields and methods inside '{}') versus those that are only declared. The latter distinction is useful because fully-defined classes are guaranteed to correspond to real C++ classes, whereas only-declared classes are not. A few other changes were required to make the lists above work: - Renamed IsFiller to IsFreeSpaceOrFiller to better reflect what it does and avoid conflicts with the new macro-generated IsFiller method. This is the part I'm most worried about: I think the new name is an improvement for clarity and consistency, but I could imagine someone typing IsFiller out of habit and introducing a bug. If we'd prefer to keep the name IsFiller, my other idea is to rename FreeSpace to VariableSizeFiller and Filler to FixedSizeFiller. - Made Tuple3 extend from Struct, not Tuple2, because IsTuple2 is expected to check for only TUPLE2_TYPE and not include TUPLE3_TYPE. - Normalized the dispatched behavior for BigIntBase and HeapNumber. - Added a few new object printers. Currently the backing store and elements kind might not aligned aka backing store can be dictionary where elements kind is frozen/sealed element kinds or the other way around. The reason is that Object.preventExtensions change elements kind to DICTIONARY while Object.seal/freeze change elements kind to SEALED/FROZEN element kind. Apply both these operations can lead to that problem as in chromium:992914 To solve this issue, we avoid Object.preventExtensions to change backing store to dictionary by introducing new nonextensible elements kind. These new nonextensible elements kind are handled similar to frozen, sealed element kinds. This change not only fixes the problem but also optimize the performance of nonextensible objects. It seems that it's better to be uniform in using Isolate* or isolate root value, so if we decide to pass isolate root value instead of Isolate* it should better be done everywhere and it will be a separate CL anyway. This is a reland of 4b86fea5 with copy&paste typo in CodeStubAssembler::AllocateByteArray() fixed (bug led to holes in new space, which was crashing reproducibly on the ia32 bot). As the next step in supporting huge typed arrays in V8, this moves the external/data pointer from the FixedTypedArrayBase backing store to the JSTypedArray instance itself, and replaces the special backing stores with a plain ByteArray (removing all the code for the FixedTypedArrayBase class hierarchy). By doing so, we can drastically simplify the system around typed arrays. Note: Several places in the code base used to check the instance type of the elements backing store of a JSTypedArray instead of checking the elements kind on the JSTypedArray map directly. Those had to be fixed, since the backing store is now always a ByteArray. Drive-by-fix: Move all the typed elements access related code into the elements.cc file to properly encapsulate the accesses. This replaces all typedefs that define types and not functions by the equivalent "using" declaration. This was done mostly automatically using this command: ag -l '\btypedef\b' src test | xargs -L1 \ perl -i -p0e 's/typedef ([^*;{}]+) (\w+);/using \2 = \1;/sg' Patchset 2 then adds some manual changes for typedefs for pointer types, where the regular expression did not match. ... which represent potentially compressed Object and MaybeObject values respectively. They provide methods for checking the smi/weak tags which don't require decompression and conversion to Smi/HeapObject combined with tag checks. The new classes should help to write a bit more efficient runtime (C++) code for the cases when we don't need the full decompressed value immediately. Drive-by-fix: fix ptr-compr build after Object::operator->() removal.
