With the introduction of the StringForwardingTable, there are no concurrent transitions of strings happening anymore. - Remove String migration sentinel maps + helper methods - Remove CanMigrateInParallel() - Remove MigrateStringMapUnderLockIfNeeded() and simplify MakeThin() There is still unused code I didn't remove in this CL, as we might need it later for shared struct features: YIELD_PROCESSOR for spinlocks and Relaxed_Memcmp(). This adds feedback collection to count the number of executions of call_direct instructions in Liftoff code. The purpose is better inlining decisions in Turbofan, which are enabled by having call count information for all kinds of calls. The new feature is gated on --wasm-speculative-inlining. While direct calls don't need to speculate about their target, the whole feedback collection infrastructure depends on that flag. LocalFactory::AllocateRaw() only allows the kOld and kSharedOld allocation types, but NewArrayList() calls NewFixedArray() without an explicit allocation argument, which then defaults to kYoung. Add an allocation argument to NewArrayList() with the same default value as for NewFixedArray() and pass kOld when calling it from NewScriptWithId() to avoid tripping the DCHECK with LocalFactory. Reduce the enqueuing cost of compiler-dispatcher jobs by getting rid of the sets and hashmaps, and instead: 1. Turning the pending job set into a queue, and 2. Making the SharedFunctionInfo's UncompiledData hold a pointer to the LazyCompilerDispatcher::Job, instead of maintaining an IdentityMap from one to the other. To avoid bloating all UncompiledData, this adds two new UncompiledData subclasses, making it four subclasses total, for with/without Preparse data and with/without a Job pointer. "should_parallel_compile" FunctionLiterals get allocated an UncompiledData with a job pointer by default, otherwise enqueueing a SFI without a job pointer triggers a reallocation of the UncompiledData to add a job pointer. Since there is no longer a set of all Jobs (aside from one for debug-only), we need to be careful to manually clear the Job pointer from the UncompiledData whenever we finish a Job (whether successfully or by aborting) and we have to make sure that we implicitly can reach all Jobs via the pending/finalizable lists, or the set of currently running jobs. For shared strings, String::MakeThin is protected by using the map word of the string being migrated as a spinlock. Note that this CL does not make it safe yet to access character data from multiple threads. The spinlock here only protects write-write races in String::MakeThin. This is a reland of 35a6eeec Reland fixes: * Add a SharedFunctionInfo::CopyFrom to encapsulate updating the SFI from the placeholder. This now includes copying scope_info (which wasn't included in the original CL and caused some of the issues) * Make sure that LocalHandleScope is initialised only inside of UnparkedScope (fixed TSAN issues) * Clean-up: Don't add `script_` to ParseInfo, but instead pass it separately to Parser. Eventually we'd ideally get rid of ParseInfo entirely (splitting it into input and output) so let's not add more fields to it. Reverts changing CreateScript to InitializeScript. Due to caching issues we will not be able to store host-defined options directly on the Script anymore. ScriptOrModule can thus no longer be a i::Script. NodeJS keeps weak references from ScriptOrModule to their import meta data. This CL changes ScriptOrModule to be a temporary struct which has a different lifetime. As a temporary fix until the API is fully updated we introduce the v8_scriptormodule_legacy_lifetime compile-time flag. It keeps references to ScriptOrModule alive on the Script to restore the previous behavior (at an additional memory cost). To prepare for prototyping shared memory features, all internalized and in-place internalizable (1- and 2-byte seq strings and external strings) will always be allocated in the shared old space. Cons strings, thin strings, and sliced strings remain allocated in the thread-local space. They are copied over to the shared space when internalized, as internalization implies flattening, which for these strings requires a copy already. To make the in-place internalization threadsafe, updating the map of such strings is now done with a release store. This CL does not yet support external strings. The adding of base:: was mostly prepared using git grep and sed: git grep -l <pattern> | grep -v base/vector.h | \ xargs sed -i 's/\b<pattern>\b/base::<pattern>/ with lots of manual clean-ups due to the resulting v8::internal::base::Vectors. #includes were fixed using: git grep -l "src/utils/vector.h" | \ axargs sed -i 's!src/utils/vector.h!src/base/vector.h!' ... and mark it as never-serialized wrt turbofan serialization. Until this CL, the JSRegExp type was used as both for plain user-visible regexp objects, and for internal regexp boilerplate descriptions. Boilerplates are special: they are never exposed to the user, they are only referenced from the feedback vector, they are immutable. To clarify this distinction, this CL introduces a dedicated struct type RegExpBoilerplateDescription to hold the regexp boilerplate description. This makes Turbofan serialization simpler: boilerplates can be accessed through direct reads since they are immutable. TF has no special requirements on JSRegExp objects (it never reads into these objects) and thus serializing only the references as a JSObjectRef is fine. According to the Torque definition, the type of the 'source' field is 'String|Undefined'. The Factory only allowed to pass a string though, which forced us to set an empty string for wasm scripts. This CL changes the factory to also allow undefined values, which fits slightly better for wasm. The inspector needed a minor change to handle undefined source like an empty string. This patch introduces a new LocalIsolate and LocalFactory, which use LocalHeap and replace OffThreadIsolate and OffThreadFactory. This allows us to remove those classes, as well as the related OffThreadSpace, OffThreadLargeObjectSpace, OffThreadHeap, and OffThreadTransferHandle. OffThreadLogger becomes LocalLogger. LocalHeap behaves more like Heap than OffThreadHeap did, so this allows us to additionally remove the concept of "Finish" and "Publish" that the OffThreadIsolate had, and allows us to internalize strings directly with the newly-concurrent string table (where the implementation can now move to FactoryBase). This patch also removes the off-thread support from the deserializer entirely, as well as removing the LocalIsolateWrapper which allowed run-time distinction between Isolate and OffThreadIsolate. LocalHeap doesn't support the reservation model used by the deserializer, and we will likely move the deserializer to use LocalIsolate unconditionally once we figure out the details of how to do this. Add off-thread support for class boilerplate allocation, removing a previously "unreachable" overload. Notably, this requires support for off-thread allocation of Dictionaries and DescriptorArrays. Due to template fun, the off-thread allocation of Dictionaries in particular requires some amount of boilerplate (no pun intended).
